Let’s face it. You are going to come across some rejection in your network marketing business. But dealing with rejection is simply a state of mind. It’s actually a myth. The situation after someone told you they were not interested is the same afterward. Before you contacted them, you did not have them as a business partner and after you contacted them, you did not. So your situation stayed the same. It did not get worse. When you look at it this way, you haven’t really lost anything, now, have you?
I love this quote by Earl E. Graves:
“We keep going back, stronger, not weaker, because we will not allow rejection to beat us down. It will only strengthen our resolve. To be successful there is no other way.”
Here are some famous rejections that may help you in dealing with rejection:
After 130 rejections, the Chicken Soup For The Soul manuscript was published and went on to sell 8 million copies.
Colonel Harlan Sanders rejected rejection over 300 times and there are now 11,000 Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in 80 countries around the world.
My all time favorite famous rejection is the following:
John Creasy, a British mystery novelist, received 743 rejection slips before he sold his first book! Over the next 40 years, he went on to publish 562 full length books! Wow, 743 rejections until he achieved his goal! Imagine that! And now look at how successful he has become.
Dealing with rejection becomes easier when you know others have gone through it as well and have come out on the other side, knowing that nothing will stop them from achieving what they want.
Dealing with rejection in network marketing also becomes less of an issue when you learn how to market to your target market which is people who are actually entrepreneurial minded and looking for an opportunity. Novel idea? If you are not using attraction marketing to build your network marketing business, you are facing far more rejection that you need to.
“Never give up on your dream…Perserverance is all important. If you don’t have the desire and the belief in yourself to keep trying after you’ve been told you should quit, you’ll never make it.” –Tawni O’Dell

Don’t quit at haltime. Keep on going until you reach your goals, my friends.

Great post, Karen! I knew about Colonel Sanders, but I didn’t know about the author who got rejected over 700 times and went on to write over 500 novels. I like the idea that we are at the same place where we started when we get rejected.
Hi Karen,
Great Topic, I think there should be more emphasis placed on this when new network marketers start out. Rejection is inevitable so we really need to be able to deal with it in the right way.
I love the strength and perseverance in the examples you gave above. I guess when we REALLY believe in ourselves we are able to achieve our goals in the end. Never give up.
Thanks for the great post,

Hey Steve,
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, it’s amazing that he kept going after 700 rejection slips. How many people would have given up at that point? Not only that, but that in the end he become so incredibly successful.
Beth,
Yes, I agree with you. I think we a lot of times make it sound so easy and then people get discouraged after all their friends and family tell them no. You do have to have a strong belief in yourself and your goals to keep going.
